I love it when I can find apps that help me in day-to-day life. It’s even more of a win when it’s an app that helps the avid reader. There are some great apps out there for book lovers!
Libby App Review
Do you love your local library as I do? Then you have to meet Libby!
The Libby app is made by Overdrive and it makes checking out digital titles, and free audiobooks super easy and is a much-loved app. Keep in mind that physical books are not included with this one.
The very best feature of the app is there are thousands of library ebooks and audiobooks, hand-selected by your public library, available for reading. You can search through catalog guides, search by author, title, or, titles featured, and curated lists. It is an amazing app for finding the most popular books. It is also a free app which of course is a huge bonus! It also saves you money because you can get so many books easily and accessible right on your mobile devices. This is such a wonderful free resource.
The Libby app reviews are amazing! It has over 800k app store reviews.
The things I love most!
It is FREE!
Yes, free. There are no hidden fees whatsoever. All you need is a library account from your library and what’s even better, if you have multiple libraries from your area, you can add them all! You do want to make sure your library is included. Over 90 percent of libraries in North America have the OverDrive app which Libby is through and Libby can be found in 78 countries worldwide.
You can find out if your library is included at overdrive.com
Read Across Devices
You can read your books on all of your devices and they sync across all of them.
IF YOU LIKED THIS POST YOU MIGHT ENJOY THESE TOO:
Once you download titles you can do offline reading on your Kindle device.
Listen through Your Bluetooth
I love all the different ways the app can be used. My husband and I enjoy listening to audiobooks so much and I love that I can listen right through my Bluetooth in my car, on my Echo, and anywhere I have my Bluetooth. We love listening while we clean and cook and in the summer at our pool.
Send to Kindle
This is one of my favorite things about the app. I can send most books right to my Kindle Paperwhite and read them right away.
(I believe it may be U.S. libraries only but if you are international check!)
Customize How You Read
You can adjust an ebook’s text size, book layout, and lighting a little bit or a lot. As you read, you can also add bookmarks, and create notes and highlights. If you are listening to an audiobook you can adjust the speed to go faster or slower.
Calendar
I love that when you place holds on digital books or when you are interested and search for a book(even before putting a hold on it) it gives you a calendar with a great idea of how long the wait will be. Sometimes it becomes available even sooner, For the most part, I do find the calendar to be very accurate on waiting times.
When you have a new book that has a wait time you won’t be able to renew it when it’s the due date, however, you can put a hold on it again and I love the fact that they will allow you to get in line a couple of days before it’s due. It gives you a little head start on the waitlist. This makes the waiting lists a little more bearable.
Of course, if there is no wait there will be no need for the calendar.
A Con: You don’t get to keep the books quite as long as you do when you check out a physical book at the library. But, if there is no one waiting for it, you can check it out again.
Email notifications
You can sign up to get email notifications when your book is available. If you are not looking at the app every day this is so convenient.
User friendly
The best thing is the app is SO user-friendly, It is perfect for new users and old ones, and even if you are not super tech you can use this app easily. Searches are easy, it even keeps track of your searches so you don’t have to put them in again. You can see your history, you can see what format the book is in (for example, ebook, or audio). It is a great way to find your next good book.
This feature is great because I love to check out both if possible when getting a book. That way I can listen on the go and read the actual book when I’m not. Because I’m a very fast reader it helps with time also.
I’m sure most of you already have the Libby app but if not make sure you add it to your phone this minute. This app will make your reading experience amazing!
The Libby app has a variety of books including best sellers and popular titles.
You can use this great app on any IOS device or Android device.
