The holidays can be a perfect time to connect with your significant other!  There are so many wonderful things you can do together and dare I say, “romantic”.  There is something about the glowing of Christmas lights or fresh baked goods that scream togetherness!

I wanted to put a list of date night ideas for Christmas you could do with your person this year or for the years to come during the holidays.

I think this list would be great for all dating and/or married couples.  I am in my fifties now and I think ones my age or older forget they can still take time to date!  These are activities great for all!

Date Night Ideas for Christmas

Take a Christmas Walk

There are many places locally that are decorated for Christmas.  Take a walk through your town, or in the city (the closest one to you).  Sometimes you will find towns that have special things going on at Christmas and so their cities want you to come enjoy the season there.

If you have a nice street or subdivision and the weather is not horribly cold where you are you can walk there to see the lights everyone has up.   My mom lives in a condo and it can be fun just taking a walk and seeing how people decorate their little decks.  I’m amazed at some of the creativity!

If you still have a good mall (I know in many places they are dying out) you can walk around.  It is decorated for Christmas and usually has a festive feel.    Stop for hot chocolate or coffee and just enjoy the scenery and the company!   This would be a better date in middle of the week because malls are extra busy on weekends.

Christmas Puzzle + Snacks Night

Put together a winter puzzle with charcuterie board or cocoa and cookies.  My husband and I enjoy working puzzles so this is a perfect date for us.  You could even play Christmas music or watch Christmas movies or shows!

Drive to See Christmas Lights

People often think of this with kids and it is a great thing to do as a family but it can also be great for couples. Pick a neighborhood known for lights, bring blankets and peppermint lattes. Play Christmas music, take a thermos of hot chocolate and go look at homes or scenery decorated for Christmas.

Christmas Market Stroll

Walk through a holiday market, shop for small gifts, and enjoy street treats. My husband is not a big shopper but he always enjoyed shopping for the kids at Christmas. You can do this at a mall, just basic department stores or any where there is shopping.

Christmas Movie + Hot Cocoa Bar Night

Make a DIY cocoa bar with toppings, then curl up with a classic holiday movie. Some of my favorites are: The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Polar Express and It’s a Wonderful Life. We have others too (some day I will make a blog post on more)

Have some Christmas popcorn together and snuggle in for a movie!

Bookstore Date + Gift Each Other a Book

Browse together, choose a book for each other to read in January. This sounds like a blast and is on my list!

Holiday Play, Ballet, Church Candle Lighting or Concert OR any Local Event

The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, or any festive local production can be so much fun. Years ago I saw a one man show of It’s a Wonderful Life and it was fabulous.

My husband and I love an interactive movie that is done every year in our area.  We don’t get to go every year but we have a blast when we do.  We throw snow, yell, and sing-it is so fun!

Find a local play, or concert, or something that is local in your area.  If you are a couple that shares faith you can visit a special mass, a candle lighting or a production that shares the true meaning of Christmas.

Have a night in listening to Christmas music or Plan a Reading Night by the Christmas Tree

You each bring a new book, sit by the tree, and read together with soft Christmas jazz. My husband and I love to share music and we both love classic Christmas music.  You can set up a Pandora channel or Spotify on your phone or computer with music you both love!  Just sit back and relax to it!

Wrapping Party for Two

Wrap gifts together while watching a cozy fireplace channel. (if you don’t have a real fireplace these channels are nice with sound and all) My husband can wrap presents WAY better than me!  His packages make mine look sick!  You can also have a night where you wrap presents together and listen to Christmas music or watch a movie!  Great way to have a good conversation!

Holiday Baking & Taste Test Night

Bake cookies, fudge, or gingerbread. Score each recipe like judges. Now, I know some of your husband’s may not bake!!  However, see if you can just get them in the kitchen one night to assist you!  They can measure out ingredients, help you roll dough, or whatever else you can think of.  Time in the kitchen always creates memories!  In some families, the husband is the chef so if that is the case, reverse those roles and help him!

Bonus one for the New Year

Bring in the New Year Together

Have some fun drink (we always do grape juice from Welch, because we are not drinkers, but have what you like)  watch the ball drop and kiss in the New Year.

Just remember most of all, Have fun!  Use these special times to be intentional with your spouse!  You can create some wonderful memories and deepen your relationship!

IN CONCLUSION

This is the perfect time to have some special times together as a couple.

I hope you enjoyed our favorites.  I would love to hear yours, I may just add to this list.  Leave them in the comments!
